This reading group is open to all with an interest in the intersection of environmental humanities, activism, and ecological transformation. The theme for this gathering is: What are the environmental humanities, and in what ways do they construct/frame/understand “activism”?

The event will focus on two open access texts:

O’Gorman, Emily, Thom Van Dooren, Ursula Münster, Joni Adamson, Christof Mauch, Sverker Sörlin, Marco Armiero et al. "Teaching the environmental humanities: International perspectives and practices."Environmental Humanities 11, no. 2 (2019): 427-460.

The text is available here: https://read.dukeupress.edu/environmental-humanities/article/11/2/427/140787/Teaching-the-Environmental-HumanitiesInternational

This first text provides a general overview of the field of the environmental humanities via how it is taught in different parts of the world.

Potter et al 2020 “A manifesto for shadow places: Re-imagining and co-producing connections for justice in an era of climate change” EPE: Nature and Space 0(0) 1–21

The text is available here:

This text, which takes the form of an “academic manifesto,” touches on questions of urgency, justice, and feminist environmental humanities, while also serving as a discussion point about modes of writing and communicating.
