The Network for Global Justice and the Environmental Humanities

The three year project, The Network for Global Justice and the Environmental Humanities: Transformative engagements between academia and civil society, is coming to a close. Yet, the dialogues and collaborations sparked by and explored throughout the network’s activities continue while, indeed, growing increasingly relevant and urgent with every day that passes.

So much more so, the EH Justice Network is excited to host a final informal event on August 29, celebrating not only the formal conclusion of the project but also the exciting prospects for future collaborative efforts.

To this end, the event also sees the launch of a new online platform specifically designed for facilitating and expanding upon exchanges between scholars, artists, and activists within environmental justice work in the hope of fostering new collaborative partnerships.

For those unable to attend in person, we hope you will join us virtually through Zoom from 14:00 - 15:00 (more info on this below).

The event will take place at Institut for (X) in Aarhus, set around the preparation and sharing of an informal, communal evening meal. More specifically, the gathering will be an opportunity to:

  • meet, engage, and exchange with one another in an informal setting and weave further connections for future potential cooperations;
  • explore some of the environmental initiatives at Institut for (X) as another way of approaching environmental actions and justice questions;
  • have your say in the final design and contents of the new online platform; and
  • participate in a shared dinner preparation with a local activist group and have a dinner together;

The event is free and open to all with an interest in the environmental humanities and ecological justice issues.

To participate in the event, please sign up no later than August 12 by filling out this registration form. A more detailed program will be shared closer to the event, so stay tuned.

We have some funding to help cover transport and accommodation expenses for those without travelling budgets. Please indicate if you are in need of support upon registration and we will try to distribute these means as best as possible (priority given to activists, artists, and independent scholars).

For those joining us online, the Zoom session from 14:00 - 15:00 will provide a brief get-together and introduction to the new digital platform. Please note that to participate online, you still need to register. The link for the Zoom session will be distributed via mail prior to the event.

The event is organized by the Network for Global Justice & the Environmental Humanities and facilitated by artist, activist, herbalist, and indpendent researcher Liene Jurgelāne in collaboration with Operation 8, a food collective run by entrepreneurs and volunteers in job training, internships and activation with roots in the Middle Eastern countries.
