In his lecture “Ground Work,” artistic researcher Michael Hirschbichler will talk about his work – spanning the disciplines of art, architecture and anthropology. He will present a series of projects (both research-based and speculative) that relate to the ground in different ways, exploring it as a materially and culturally charged reality. Hirschbichler engages with spaces, landscapes and environments that are critical for the current condition of the world. He thereby focuses on the interrelations between their material and immaterial aspects (stories, memories, histories, ideologies and believes), between the visible and the invisible, be¬tween facts and fictions. Hirschbichler was a lecturer at ETH Zurich and HSLU Lucerne, the director of the Architecture Program at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology, a visiting professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at TU Delft and Goldsmiths. Moreover, he has had numerous stints as an artist-in-residence, and his work has been shown, among others, at Martin-Gropius-Bau (Berlin), artQ13 (Rome), Kunstverein Ingolstadt, House of Architecture HDA (Graz), Helmhaus (Zurich) and Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg.
All are welcome, with no registration necessary. Coffee and tea provided.
