How can environmental humanities be in dialogue with those whose livelihoods are intertwined with landscapes?
Join CEH for a lunchtime conversation with Mikkel Per, a 44 year-old self-employed reindeer herder and the successful head of his own herding unit. He is knowledgeable about all aspects of reindeer herding - the land/animal/human relationship, the formal politics of reindeer (re)districting and control, and the informal 'mountain' politics of 'good neighbor' herding (returning strays, contacting when driving others' animals to slaughter, passing on useful information), and the challenges he's facing in terms of climate change (warmer winters, rain and ice at the wrong times, then too much snow). He also brings a comparative perspective, having traveled to Inner Mongolia to visit Yakut reindeer herders there. Mikkel will be accompanied by his father, bringing an intergeneration perspective to this informal event about the present politics, ecologies and challenges of extensive reindeer herding on Finnmark's vidda.

Free sandwiches and drinks will be provided those who RSVP (to ceh@cas.au.dk) no later than February 13th at 17 PM. Be sure to let us know if you have special dietary needs (e.g. vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free).
